There is in essence no difference between the terms Podiatrist and Chiropodist. Podiatry is the new name given to Chiropody in 1993. Both names are considered as foot doctors in the UK and both have acquired the same qualifications and experience i.e. a 3-4 year university degree to treat lower limb conditions. Podiatry is a highly regulated medical profession and requires registration with the Health & Care Professions Council + professional indemnity insurance in order to practise similar to your Doctor/Dentist. A Foot Health Practitioner is a different profession with qualifications often gained online over a shorter period of time than a Podiatrist. Although there could be a cross-over in some treatments provided, their scope of practice is limited and they cannot administer Local Anaesthetic. Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine mostly concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine.
Payments methods we accept are credit or debit card, cash and if it’s an online booking we send a secure payment link to enable you to pay online.
Podiatrists are professionals. Like other medical professionals such as doctors and dentists they spend up to 4 years at university. They are required by law to be insured to provide their services to the public and are also regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Furthermore, to provide a high standard of care they must adhere to hygiene guidelines by investing in autoclave equipment to ensure that the instruments they use, just like theirs other professional colleagues are sterilised and safe for public use. When you think of the value you can receive from a single visit to your Podiatrist, e.g. you’ve had a corn for 3 months, you’ve tried various over the counter corn pads, creams, lotions and potions. Every step hurts. After a single visit to your Podiatrist they can not only diagnose but also treat your corn by enucleating it safely using their trained scalpel skills. You no longer limp and every step is now comfortable. What’s the price value on that?
Podiatry initial appointments are up to 45 minutes where we go through your medical history and treat any minor problems on the spot, with subsequent routine appointments lasting 30 minutes. We offer a range of appointments time depending on which treatment you require, if you are unsure book into our advice only appointment that’s only £20.00 for 15 minutes.
The majority of podiatry treatments are painless and pleasant. Conditions such as in growing toe nails may be sensitive to treat, however great relief is experienced following treatments. We are one of the few foot clinics in Tayside to offer Anaesthetic to block the feeling of pain during treatment. Anaesthetic usually wears off in 1-3 hours post treatment.
We do have emergency appointments where we will try our best to accommodate you as soon as possible depending on severity of your issue and our clinic schedules.
Corns don’t have a root, they have a hard or soft centre which if there is constant stimulation ( pressure) of the tissue producing the corns, even after the corn is surgically removed, the skin may continue to grow as a corn So its important to treat the cause not just the symptoms. Corns are caused by abnormal pressure and friction. Some sources of this pressure and friction include:
Wearing ill-fitting shoes. Tight shoes and high heels can compress areas of your feet. When footwear is too loose, your foot may repeatedly slide and rub against the shoe. Your foot may also rub against a seam or stitch inside the shoe.
The simple answer is sit back and relax while we fix your lower limb problems. On your initial appointment your podiatrist will ask you about your foot and/or lower leg problem, go through your medical history, then examine your feet and lower limbs to examine the blood flow to your feet using a Doppler machine, assess the nerve sensation in your feet, examine your movement, posture, flexibility and strength in the bones and joints of your feet. Next, your podiatrist will identify any area of concern to provide you with a diagnosis of your foot problem before providing a specific treatment according to a plan that is agreed with you to solve your foot problem. Finally, your Podiatrist will advise you on home care recommendations to maintain or prevent re-occurrence of your foot problem.
The answer is no as your Podiatrist at Sole Body Soul will start your treatment and examination by cleansing your feet. If you are super conscious about your feet being a bit ‘smelly and sticky’ if you’re visiting us after work at our evening clinic, we provide biodegradable refreshing towels to allow you to freshen your feet before seeing us.
When you phone us, our reception team are well informed and knowledgeable at allocating correct appointments. If still unsure, you can of course request a call back with one of our Podiatrists before visiting us and also remember that we offer a 15 minute advice only appointment which can be conveniently booked using our online booking facility to allow you to come into clinic and show us your foot or lower limb problem to allow us to answer any of your questions.
We do offer nail surgery appointments. Prior to booking we’ll first require a 45 minute assessment where we’ll determine if toenail surgery is indeed necessary. Often or not there are more conservative methods of treatments. If it is we will take a full medical history, assess your suitability for local anaesthetic for the procedure and we’ll look to book you in as soon as possible usually within a week.

A podiatrist on a daily basis treats arthritic symptoms of stiffness and pain. There is many forms of arthritis and the most common being Osteoarthritis that develops as we get older. Although there is no cure for Osteoarthritis, there are many ways that our Podiatrists at Sole Body Soul can help ease pressure on the affected joints and therefore reduce the pain. Such treatments involve joint mobilisations, acupuncture, issuing orthoses when appropriate (special shoe inserts that help redistribute your weight/ pressure as you walk). Strapping and taping for a short time to limit joint movement. We will also advise on the best type of footwear to suit your feet.
Please bring a list of your current medication. We recommend that you wear loose fitting clothing and shoes and hosiery which can be easily removed. Also, please wear the shoes that you tend to wear the most often. You can also bring with you other shoes that you wear the for sports and day to activities and any insoles/orthotics you may already have.
Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have been trained to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They also prevent and correct deformity, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections.
